Abstract
Intellectual functions were measured by the Wechsler-Bellevue Scale. The patients selected for electronarcosis therapy covered the usual range of intelligence, and did not differ from other clinical groups. Some of the patients showed psychomotor retardation, which was found to be associated with relatively good prognosis. The therapy produced no marked changes in intellectual functioning. The Minnesota Multiphasic Personality Inventory was also used. The patients who responded best to electronarcosis tended to have high scores only on the Depression scale. The majority of those Tesponding well could be identified. In general, those patients responded best who were depressed and showed psychombtor retardation. Patients with other kinds of intellectual impairment responded poorly. Keywords
