Abstract
Summary: A brief historical review of the genusHexagonaFr. and discussion of its typification are presented. The indication ofHexagona crinigeraFr. as lectotype is considered to be the most suitable. The genusHexagonaFr. should be restricted to the group of species included by Fries in 1838 in his first section, around which allied species should be grouped. While studying the genusHexagonaI found the question of its typification a most difficult and serious problem. Several non‐congeneric species have been designated by different authors as the type. Different interpretations of the International Code of Nomenclature favored diversified conclusions, making the situation more and more confused. I decided to study this problem with the hope of clarifying the situation with some new evidence. Keywords
