Abstract
The adenohypophysls of Tor (Barbus) tor Is, tinctorially, divisible into 3 zones: rostral pars distalls, proximal pars distalls and pars intermedia. The cyanophils which display concomitant changes with the onset of spermatogenetlc activity are located in the proximal pars distalls. Evidence presented here indicates that these cyanophils are the gonadotrophs, and their secretory activity controls the spermatogenetic activity during the reproductive cycle. The probable site for the location of thyrotrophs is indicated. Neurosecretory materials appear to participate in the reproduction of this species. Keywords
