Abstract
Recently, the first direct experimental observations have been made of a depression in melting point at the surface of a three-dimensional crystal. Since then, numerous experiments with various techniques have been devoted to surface melting. The most intensively studied surface in this respect, so far, is Pb(110). This paper attempts to compare and combine the experimental information which is presently available for this surface. A detailed picture of surface melting of Pb(110) emerges.
