A TV imaging system has been developed for intraoral radiographic evaluation using a very low radiation dose as compared to conventional film techniques. The advantages could be classified as follows: (1) Dose reduction to patients up to 1/30–1/80 of the dose necessary for exposing a conventional dental radiograph; (2) For routine diagnosis, the image resolution of the TV system, about 4 lines per mm, should be acceptable; (3) The different steps used in producing the TV image is completely controlled electronically and is almost instantaneous; this reduces the time formerly needed for film processing; (4) The use of electronic image formation bypasses the need for conventional film processing and permits storage of the image on video-tapes.
