Abstract
Motivated by a desire to control the turbulent boundary layer via feedback, the effect on a naturally occuring streamwise vortex pair of a perturbing pair produced by an actuator is examined. It is shown how the resulting velocity field modifies coefficients in the low‐dimensional models of Aubry et al. [J. Fluid Mech. 192, 115 (1988)], and a control strategy is sketched that reduces the bursting rate and hence the turbulent drag in the model problem. Keywords
