X‐ray examination of several systems indicated that compounds of the type are the only ones formed by the rare earth sesquioxides and vanadium pentoxide. On the basis of this finding, we developed a flux‐growing technique employing a melt for the preparation of all rare earth vanadates in single crystalline form. With such monocrystals as well as with polycrystalline material we studied the fluorescent emission of the rare earth vanadates, and these data are reported and discussed.
