Abstract
This study assayed the lactate dehydrogenase and malate deyhdrogenase activities in liver and testes from male C57BL/6 mice. Total enzyme activities were measured in vitro in tissue homogenates from mice that were 120, 400, 500, 600, 700, and 800 days old. Lactate dehydrogenase activity was the same at 120 and 800 days, although it decreased slightly at 400 and 500 days in liver and at 700 days in testes. Malate dehydrogenase activity decreased in liver and testes between 120 and 700 days and increased at 800 days. The data indicate that the decrease in metabolic rate which occurs in this animal with age does not affect each metabolic pathway in the same manner.
