Complete Heart Block with Stokes-Adams Syndrome Due to Rheumatoid Heart Disease

Abstract
SINCE Baggenstoss and Rosenberg1 reported lesions in the myocardium of a patient with rheumatoid arthritis similar in structure to subcutaneous nodules, a number of pathological reports of granulomatous heart involvement in this disease have been published.2 3 4 5 Because of the nature of these granulomas, interference with conduction is to be expected. A survey of the literature, however, revealed only 1 case in which complete heart block developed and led directly to the death of the patient.6 Case ReportA 59-year-old man was admitted to the emergency room because of sudden, transient loss of consciousness.
