Abstract
It is suggested that vasomotor abnormality together with deterioration of heart muscle may be the explanation of the "riddle" of beriberi heart disease. Patients dying of nutritional cirrhosis are found to have a high incidence of beriberi heart disease as well. Chronic alcoholism continues to be the main cause for poor diets which eventually deteriorate the heart and circulation. Keywords
