Abstract
The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether the standard oxyhemoglobin dissociation curves, derived from indirect detns., describe with accuracy oxy-Hb dissociation as it occurs in vivo. Data on the dissociation of oxy-Hb and on acid-base balance were obtained by direct methods in man in a variety of physiologic states: rest, exercise, anoxia (anoxic and CO), and acapnia. The methods used are described. The standard oxy-Hb dissociation curves were found to describe conditions as they exist in vivo.Keywords
