Abstract
Physiological factors that affect blood CFU-C [granulocytic progenitor cell] numbers were investigated. Exercise produced a 4-fold rise in blood colonly forming cells and a 2-fold rise in cluster forming cells accompanied by a lymphocytosis. ACTH-induced stress caused a 2-fold rise in blood colony and cluster forming cells accompanied by a neutrophil leukocytosis. Blood CFU-C apparently exchange with a large marginal pool as well as a bone marrow pool. The procedures described could be exploited in the use of leukapheresed nucleated cells as a source of stem cells for bone marrow transplantation. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
