Abstract
A technique was devised for obtaining a sample of the blood contained within the minute blood vessels in the human forearm. The arterial inflow to the forearm was obstructed by a tourniquet. The blood in the large vessel was removed from a large vein by a syringe and needle and then the blood normally contained within the small vessels was forced into the veins by the application of an Esmarch''s bandage. The Hb content of blood obtained from the small vessels was .8 to 1.8 g. lower than that of venous blood. A similar difference in hematocrit reading was found. The serum protein conc, of blood from the small vessels was the same or slightly lower than that of venous blood. The cell plasma ratio of venous blood evidently does not represent the cell plasma ratio of all the blood in the circulation. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
