Abstract
This paper examines female alcohol and prescription drug misuse from a socio-political prospective and offers treatment suggestions based on these theoretical assumptions. It demonstrates how women's roles in society, reflecting the existence of sexism and female oppression, affects the patterns and types of chemicals women abuse, as well as their subsequent treatment. Feminist counseling is proposed as an effective approach for female substance misusers.
