The Genus Ruellia in Texas

Abstract
Texas in its eastern portion marks the s.-w. limit of distr. of the e. N. American spp., while in its central and s.-w. portion it marks the center of distr. of a considerable number of entities heretofore assigned to R. nudiflora. The authors, having examined a great number of collections, both from the University of Texas and other herbaria, propose 15 spp. and 9 vars. from this R. nudiflora complex. New combs.: R. muelleri var. grandiflora (R. n. var. g. Leonard), R. occidentalis (R. n. var. o. Leonard), R. yucatana (R. n. var. y. Leonard), R. congesta (R. n. var. c. Leonard), R. glabrata (R. n. var. g. Leonard), R. puberula (R. n. var. p. Leonard). New vars.: R. metzae var. marshii, Mexico; R. occidentalis var. wrightii, no locality; R. o. var. lundelliorum, R. o. var. ferrisae, R drushelii var. macrocarpa, R. glabrata var. shrevei, R. runyonii var. berlandieri and R. nudiflora var. mirandae, types all from Mexico. New spp.: R. palmeri and R. edwardsae, Mexico; R. metzae, Texas; R. muelleri, Mexico; R. strictopaniculata and R. davisiorum, Texas; R. drushelii and R. corzoi, Mexico; R. runyonii, Texas. Two new vars. are proposed for the group of spp. finding their western limits in e. Texas: R. humilis var. depauperata and R. carolinensis var. serrulata.
