Straggling Distributions for Electrons in Passing through Thin Foils

Abstract
Straggling distributions for the 624-kev conversion electrons from Cs137 are examined with a high-resolution beta spectrometer for foils of Be, Al, Cu, Sn, Ta, and Pb. Agreement is found with the Blunck-Leisegang theory for the heavy elements, but the energy loss distributions for light elements are found to be about 1.8 times as wide as expected.
