Abstract
Allegedly, ulceration of the gastric mucosa by sucking nasogastric tubes is prevented by the double-lumen design. However, multiple gastric ulcers have been seen at autopsy in four patients treated with the double-lumen nasogastric tube. The spatial distribution and uniform size of the ulcers accurately reproduced the arrangement and size of the sucking ports on the tube. Double-lumen nasogastric tubes on suction should therefore be used with as much caution as single-lumen tubes. Keywords
