Effects of Antibiotics and Vaccination on Experimental Pyelonephritis

Abstract
In order to determine the relative efficacy of autogenous vaccine and antibiotics in experimental pyelonephritis, groups of rabbits with partial ligation of one ureter and infected intra-venously with Escherichia coll were treated with vaccine, tetracycline, or served as controls. Severe pyelonephritis was observed in 96% of the control animals, 25% of the vaccinated, and 0% of the tetracycline treated rabbits. It is concluded that tetracycline is more effective than vaccination.
