Metastatic Kaposi's Sarcoma Presenting as Acute Appendicitis

Abstract
A homosexual male with a history of multiple sexual contacts presented with symptoms of appendicitis. After appendectomy and apparent clinical recovery, he was noted to be progressively leukopenic. This raised the suspicion of AIDS, and a biopsy of lip and abdominal wall lesions confirmed Kaposi's sarcoma. Re-examination of the appendix specimen revealed a Kaposi's sarcoma lesion as the cause of appendicitis.
