EVIDENCE FOR AN AUTOSOMAL RECESSIVE GENE FOR SUSCEPTIBILITY TO PARALYTIC POLIOMYELITIS

Abstract
Twenty-nine cases of paralytic poliomyelitis, involving complete ascertainment in the northwest portion of McDowell County, West Virginia, are presented in family-history form. The genetic interrelationships of these cases suggest the existence of an autosomal recessive gene for susceptibility to paralytic poliomyelitis, showing about 70 per cent penetrance.
