Abstract
Some economists and many forest economists have analysed sustained yield concepts and found obvious deficiencies. Objectives of sustained yield forest management are not explicit, have limited value for modern decision making and may significantly retard economic growth and development, yet sustained yield is cherished by most forest managers.Following examination of the advantages and disadvantages of sustained yield concepts it is concluded that controversy should be encouraged with the hope that improved understanding will develop. New and better ideas must be evolved. Nautiyal's economically efficient objective of maximization of the present worth of net benefits from forest lands deserves wider recognition and full implementation. Keywords
