Effect of High-Intensity X-Radiation on Velocity of Nerve Conduction

Abstract
Sciatic nerves of 80 bullfrogs. Rana catesbiana and 20 rabbits were isolated and exposed to various doses of X-radiation. In frog nerves, doses in excess of 75 kr caused a decrease in conduction velocity; doses above 300 kr completely abolished nerve conduc-tion within 1 hour following irradiation. Rabbit nerves proved to be much more radiosensitive than frog nerves. Doses in excess of 45 kr produced complete block within 1 hour following irradiation.
