Clinical Chemistry Quality Control Values in Thirty-Three University Medical School Hospitals: Preliminary Report

Abstract
This article reports a summary of day to day quality control values from clinical chemistry laboratories in university medical school hospitals. The purpose of the report is to provide the many hospital laboratories now using quality control with a reference point. Expressed as one standard deviation on a single serum pool measured each day samples were analysed, the following were the 1 SD values: Glucose, 3.2 mg/100 ml; Urea, 1.1 mg/100 ml; Calcium, 0.2 mg/100 ml; Uric Acid, 0.25 mg/100 ml; Total Protein, 0.16 gm/100 ml; Creatinine, 0.11 mg/100 ml; Cholesterol, 8.7 mg; Sodium, 1.5 mEq/L; Potassium, 0.12 mEq/L; Chloride, 1.3 mEq/L; Carbon Dioxide, 0.8 mEq/L.
