Stationary Self-trapped Laser Beams in Plasma

Abstract
The equilibrium radius and nonlinear wave-number shift of a cylindrical self-trapped Gaussian laser beam propagating in a plasma are derived in a direct way using a variational approach. The results differ considerably from those predicted by theories relying on paraxial ray approximations.Keywords
