In Vitro Activity, Absorption and Excretion of Chloromycetin

Abstract
The in vitro activity of aureomycin was greater than that of chloromycetin, against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, with the exception of Proteus vulgaris. In vitro expts. and clinical experience support the view that aureomycin is the antibiotic of choice in staphylococcic infections. After a single oral dose of 1 g. of chloromycetin, the absorption and urinary elimination of the drug was rapid. On an avg., 5% of the dose given was found in the urine as an active compound. The optimum interval between oral doses of chloromycetin is 4 hrs.
