Aureomycin in the Treatment of Amebiasis

Abstract
IN THE long-continued search for amebicidal agents applicable to treatment of human infestations by Endamoeba histolytica, attention in the past year has been drawn to the apparent effectiveness of aureomycin. At the Veterans Administration Hospital in Lincoln, Nebraska, 20 patients with proved amebiasis have received aureomycin, and the results are believed to confirm those of other workers.McVay, Laird and Sprunt1 and Fuller and Faust2 first reported the apparent inhibitory action of aureomycin upon E. histolytica in vitro.
