Planning Environments For Older People

Abstract
As an example of a comprehensive planning approach, the environmental-behavioral transactions of older people are analyzed within the concept of the “prosthetic” environment, designed to compensate for relatively fixed disabilities. Plans directed toward disabilities in the areas of life maintenance, perception, cognition, self-maintenance, effectance, social behavior, and self-concept are discussed. Problems of the “space manager” and the need to allow for individual differences are pointed out.
