Abstract
Methods of vision testing must be appropriate for each age in young children. Preschool vision testing is affected by test symbols, test distance, and test symbol spacing. This study investigates these factors and compares results with previous findings of others. The British Stycar test emerged as the best vision test for young children (because of highest attained visual acuity, lowest untestability, shortest testing time, and greatest reliability). Visual acuity of 3-year-old-children can be tested and is better than commonly assumed. The need for earlier and better preschool vision testing is stressed.
