Abstract
To the Editor: Strains of HIV-1 that are relatively resistant to zidovudine (AZT) have been isolated from the blood of patients receiving therapy with that drug.1 However, the relations between in vitro sensitivity or resistance of HIV-1 to zidovudine, in vivo HIV-1 viremia, and therapeutic efficacy are poorly understood. Since persistent viremia in patients receiving zidovudine may be evidence of drug resistance, we undertook a retrospective study of the diagnostic results from our virology laboratory to determine the rates of isolation of HIV-1 among such patients. The records of all patients who had received zidovudine through the pharmacy of the . . .Keywords
