Gas-phase Raman spectroscopy of the trihalides of aluminium, gallium, and indium. The Raman spectra of solid and liquid indium trichloride and tribromide
The gas-phase vibrational spectra of the trihalides of aluminium, gallium, and indium are studied at temperatures up to 900°. The observed vibrational frequencies are assigned appropriately to monomer and/or dimer. ν1 and ν4 of all the MX3(monomer) species (M = Al, Ga, and In; X = Cl, Br, and I) are given for the first time. Tentative assignments of ν3 are made for AlBr3, InBr3, and Gal3. The vibrational spectrum of solid and liquid InCl3 and InBr3 are recorded and discussed.
