Abstract
Using examples from Northern Ireland the authors attempt to identify, through a variety of tests, the standard coastal recreation “dune consumer,” as opposed to the “non-dune” consumer. While few directly collected data, both in this and earlier studies, are little more than suggestive, results of indirect methods (PF testing, TAT, semantic differential tests) show certain significant idiosyncratic tendencies among those visitors who prefer dune-based activities. It is concluded that such information might assist long-term management planning, but that further research is needed. Keywords
