Wind-Induced Modification of E Region Ionization Profiles

Abstract
The time variation of a simplified ionospheric model has been studied by the numerical solution of the set of coupled continuity equations for the dominant ion species. The inclusion of transport effects due to a neutral wind which varies with altitude but is constant in time is shown to produce large modifications of the evening E region ionization profile. The theoretical model has been substantially verified by comparison with data from an experiment carried out at Eglin AFB, Fla., in April 1967.
