Abstract
Acrylonitrile–styrene, vinyl chloride–styrene and vinyl chloride–methyl methacrylate block copolymers were obtained by employing trapped radicals in polyacrylonitrile or poly(vinyl chloride) formed in a heterogeneous system by tri‐n‐butylboron in air as initiator. The trapped polymer radicals were activated on addition of dimethylformamide as solvent. Confirmation of block copolymers was carried out with solvent extractions, elementary analysis, and turbidimetry. In block copolymerization, the polyacrylonitrile trapped radical was more active than the poly(vinyl chloride) radical. Results of kinetic studies were used to consider the mechanism of polymerization. Keywords
