Theory of Optical Band Shape for A1g -> T1u Transition. I

Abstract
A theory of the optical band shape for the A1g → T1u transition is formulated using the independent ordering approximation. The theory covers all regions of temperature and of the linear electron phonon coupling strength, and takes account of phonon dispersion. It is shown that even within the linear interaction, asymmetric three-headed structure appears in the band shape and at very low temperature its high energy peak disappears. The effect of quadratic interactions is also considered by using the moment method, and the temperature dependence of the skewness and kurtosis of the band is discussed.
