Abstract
By an extension of ordinary geometrical optics (or acoustics) the intensity of the reflected and transmitted fields due to a point source in the presence of an arbitrary interface between two media is found. Particular consequences of the solution are the general lens and mirror law and the equations for the caustic surfaces. Keywords
