Abstract
Of 205 patients with acute stem cell (lympho-blastic) leukemia, 175 lived longer than 30 days. In this latter group, 50% lived 17.2 months; 25%, 27. 5 months; and 10%, 45.0 months. Six patients were alive in uninterrupted remission 4-9 years after diag-nosis. Patients with initial counts below 20, 000 per cu. mm. had twice the mean survival time when compared to those with a high initial leukocyte count. Clinically the combined, concomitant use of steroids and antimetabolites (composite cyclic therapy) was superior to the use of single antimetabolites. Keywords
