Abstract
In spite of being the most basic of water‐treatment processes, filtration today remains as much an art as a science. This article presents experience, available formulas, and design criteria to aid in more economical filter design and Operation. Parts 2 and 3 of this article will be presented in later issues of the Journal. Keywords
