Abstract
Placement of 5-pound bags of a 2% malathion and 0.5% DDVP fly bait in closed and in ventilated rooms produced high mortality of caged and "free-flying" mosquitoes over a 4-week period. These preliminary tests indicate that some of the organic phosphorus insecticides may be formulated to give a residual fumigant activity highly effective for extended periods against house-frequenting mosquitoes. Such a technique would reduce or eliminate many of the operational problems now encountered in global malaria eradication programs. More studies are needed to evaluate the toxic hazards, develop effective formulations, and determine the feasibility of the practical usage of this technique. Keywords
