Experimental lesions of the parahippocampal region in rats

Abstract
Although understanding interactions between the hippocampus and the surrounding cortices is central to understanding hippocampal dependent processes, it is also important to know what unique or individual functions might be served by the cortical areas within the parahippocampal region. This chapter reviews the effects of lesions upon performance on classic tests of spatial navigation, contextual learning paradigms, and tasks that require processing of information about objects. Finally, it proposes a description of parahippocampal functions that is applicable to evidence accrued in each of these domains.
