Studies on Myxidium oviforme, a myxosporidan parasite of Irish salmon, Salmo salar

Abstract
Myxidium oviforme is described from Irish salmon Salmo salar. Its close relationship with M. folium, M. moxostomatis and M. aplodinoti, and its possible economic importance are discussed.Attempts to establish infections of M. oviforme in young, parasite-free salmon are described, and the reasons for their negative results discussed.This work was carried out during the tenure of a Medical Research Council Scholarship for Training in Research Methods between October 1964 and September 1966, and forms part of a thesis submitted for the Ph.D. Degree of the University of London.
