Abstract
Gastric lavage and the use of two pharmacologic agents (syrup of ipecac and apomorphine) were studied in puppies to assess rapidity of stomach evacuation and efficiency of removal of stomach contents. Apomorphine clearly acts faster to produce emesis and removes a larger amount of inert material than the two other methods. If studies in children corroborate these data in experimental animals, apomorphine will be clearly indicated as the pharmacological emetic of choice. Keywords
