Abstract
The hematologic findings in 148 infants with kwashiorkor have been analyzed in an attempt to evaluate the parts played by infection, by deficiencies of iron, folic acid, vitamin B12, and protein, and by hemolysis in causing anemia. It is concluded that anemia is due mainly to protein deficiency, but there is some evidence that deficiencies of iron and folic acid also play a part. Keywords
