Outpatient Treatment for Chronic Schizophrenic Patients

Abstract
Introduction The problem of treatment of the large population of schizophrenic patients remains a major logistic challenge to psychiatric technique. It is inconceivable that we would ever have enough trained psychiatrists to treat this large patient population with our present methodology. One solution of this problem would be to await the discovery of the cause of schizophrenia and then to apply the hopefully simple specific remedy. Unfortunately, our present knowledge of the schizophrenic type of illness must lead us to the conclusion that no simple cause will be found.Certainly, at present, we must view this group of illness as a complex psychobiological reaction to a multitude of somatic, psychological, genetic, environmental, and social forces. In this paper we propose to demonstrate a simple, effective, outpatient treatment program for chronic schizophrenic patients.
