Thyrotropin-Releasing Hormone (TRH) Mediated Thyroid-Stimulating Hormone (TSH) Release from Human Anterior Pituitary Tissuein Vitro

Abstract
This study demonstrates the effect of thyrotropin-releasing hormone on human pituitary tissue in vitro. One and 10 ng/ml doses of TRH causes prompt release of TSH, while on two occasions 100 ng/ml doses were ineffective. Thyroxine and triiodothyronine added to the medium completely inhibited TRH-mediated TSH release. The release of TSH from pituitary tissue from a patient with a history of brain irradiation was not enhanced by TRH. TSH release from a chromophobe adenoma was not detectable, either with or without TRH.
