Abstract
In dogs subjected to respiratory acidosis, ecg and pressor responses to intra-arterial epinephrine, norepinephrine, and metaraminol were compared with responses obtained from animals with normal blood pH. Cardiac arrhythmias which were present in animals with normal blood pH values were absent or minimal in acidotic animals. Pressor responses were also diminished in intact animals. Pressor responses were studied in a series of dogs subjected to total cardio-pulmonary by-pass by means of a homologous lung-pump oxygenator under conditions of respiratory acidosis and normal blood pH values. The pressor responses in these animals were diminished under conditions of acidosis. Keywords
