Abstract
Gore criticizes current efforts to link pro fessional education with liberal educa tion on the grounds that weaknesses in liberal education make for an unreliable collaboration. Furthermore, the distinc tive domain of professional education precludes a productive linkage with the liberal arts. Teacher educators must rec ognize the uniqueness of their perspec tive and build appropriate programs and intellectual environments. The prob lems of liberal education are formidable, but their resolution is best left to the academy. Keywords
