Abstract
A prospective study of 86 women attending the clinic for the first time showed that 9 patients had more than 10 leukocytes/highpower microscope field (HPF) in smears taken from the urethral meatus, even though 6 of them had micturated less than 2 h before examination. Six of these patients had urethral gonorrhea, 1 had trichomoniasis and 2 were contacts of men with non-specific urethritis. Women with more than 10 leukocytes/HPF of urethral secretion at their first visit and in whom a diagnosis was not made, should strongly be urged to return for further assessment. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
