AIR HYGIENE FOR HOSPITALS

Abstract
A laboratory and operating room study shows that it is possible to provide absolute filtration of bacteria on dust particles and high retention of bacterial droplet nuclei through installation of certain deep-bed glass-fiber material in the hospital ventilating system. A glass-asbestos paper offered retention in the same range. No hospital should accept an installation which has not been found to retain at least 85% of atmospheric dust or its equivalent. Careful performance testing of the installation is essential.
