Chronic Catheterization of Carotid and Vertebral Arteries in Cats.

Abstract
A method is described for chronic implantation of polyethylene catheters into the carotid or vertebral arteries in cats, making possible the injection of drugs into limited portions of the cerebral circulation in the conscious, freely moving animals. A characteristic syndrome from intracarotid pentobarbital is described, consisting of ipsiversive circling, and contralateral hemiparesis and hemianopia, accompanied by ipsilateral eeg changes. The advantages of the method are discussed.
