Abstract
In Bergey''s manual 2 distinct hemolytic hemophilic bacteria have been grouped in one sp. It is proposed that H. haemolyticus be retained for those that require both X and V for growth and a new name H. parahaemolyticus be assigned to those that require only V. The latter also differ from former in that they are larger, stain more heavily and unevenly and occur in long tangled thread forms with much pleomorphism; colonies are larger, less transluclent and produce a larger zone of colorless hemolysis. Frequently they are associated with acute pharyngitis and occasionally cause subacute endocarditis. Keywords
